About Me

I'm Loretta. The girl behind A Finn In The Kitchen.

Welcome to my place!

I'm fast approaching 30 and am married to a wonderful man named Nick. We have one daughter, born in 2011, who is my biggest source of amusement.

I started this blog because although I love cooking and baking, I was getting into a rut. If I knew what I was making at all, it was something I'd done many, many times before. And I think that's a shame, seeing as I have a massive Pinterest food addiction. Follow me here if you want to get sucked in with me!

I had visions of becoming more accomplished in the kitchen and learning more about photography at the same time.

I'm a self-described hippie and live a pretty crunchy life. I'm pretty passionate about health (although not all of my food here could be described that way). I love making things from scratch like cleaning supplies and homemade beauty products. Yes, even deodorant! I use organic when possible, but don't get too stressed about it.

I love that you're here!

  3. Hei Loretta!
Hei in Finnish is hi. All vowels are pronounced in the Finnish language. I am a full blooded Finn and am plenty feisty with sisu too! Actually I am a 2nd generation American and so is my husband who is also 100% Finnish. I found your site by accident & glad I did as I LOVE baking apple anything. Trying this apple cake out this week. Yum.

    1. Hei in return! In high school we had the option to take Finnish classes, and I still wish I had taken those. I'm so glad you're here and I hope you love the apple cake :) Yay for sisu!

  • I found you through you're sister's blog. Love you both! As a vegetarian, I am so happy to find many of your recipes that I can try! I also try to clean and eat organically as much as possible. Looking forward to following your blog.

    1. Thanks so much Darlene! I would hardly describe myself as a vegetarian, but we do eat as cleanly as possible, which means veggies are on the menu! Glad to have you :)
